date with a farmer

Hi everyone!  Since Taryn appears to be disappointed with us and our blogging, I decided to share a recent 'date' that my husband took me on.  It goes a little something like this.....It was a lovely friday evening and I am asked by my handsome date to go on a little trip with him.
First of all, I am told to pack a bag in literally 5 minutes because my date is 'ready to go now'.  Next I get picked up in a lovely black Ford F-350 pickup and we head off into unknown parts of Nebraska.  We drive back road highways and see many historical sights (military bunkers by Hastings) and end up in Hastings Nebraska at about 8:30 pm.  He next takes me to our lovely accomodations for the night, the penthouse suite of the local Super 8 (well, we were on the 2nd floor!) and of course, being the gentleman that he is, I had to pay with my credit card.  Next we go out for a lovely meal at a local fancy eating spot known as the Dairy Queen.  And it was our lucky day because a bunch of small children decided to come in and have ice cream cones following a big night out at a carnival where they apparently ingested lots of sugar!  It amazes me how parents tune out their loud children!  (I'm sure I was one of them at one time)   Next he took me out for drinks -- we walked across the street to the local Phillips 66 gas station and got a 6-pack and walked back to our lovely suite where I immediately went to bed and my date sat up drinking his beer and watching the local news.  We all know David well enough to know that I was awoken bright and early the next morning (6am) to continue our journey.  To our surprise, dense fog had moved in during the night time hours and we couldn't see 25 feet in front of us.  We started out on the next leg of our journey after a scrumptious breakfast at a wonderful little restaurant that the locals call "McDonald's" .  Again, remember, we are out of our element and have never been on these roads before.  Here it is, foggy as can be and we plug on looking for road signs that can lead us to our final destination.   Finally, we have arrived!  Shelton, Nebraska and the local John Deere dealership!  Success!  We found it and didn't get lost in the fog, now only if we can make it back to southeast Nebraska.  David looks at his recent purchase and treasure.  It's a keeper and we take off down the road again, in the fog, with a new sprayer attached to the back.  It took us approx. 3 1/2 hours to reach our destination but it's going to take us a lot longer to get home due to the fog and driving 35 miles per hour with David's new toy tagging and dragging behind us.  Oh, joy!  We saw some lovely sights on the way home as well and enjoyed stops at many of the local gas stations for pit stops and lunch which consisted of tootsie rolls, popcorn and pop.  We finally made it to home sweet home approx. 5 1/2 hours after we left the quaint little town of Shelton, Nebraska.  We were very close to sister Cindy and I waved at the intersection of Hwy 6 & Hwy 81 as we went by.  My date told me we were in too much of a hurry to go out of our way to see relatives.  I found it quite funny that we were in a hurry when we were traveling at a maximum speed of 35-40 miles per hour all the way home.
So, as we were pulling into the driveway, I told David that since I had just spent all of my friday night and most of my Saturday going to get a sprayer with him that I expected him to go with me one afternoon to look for some new furniture---you should've seen the look on his face!  You would have thought that I asked him to go on a year long trip around the world!  He told me he couldn't go with me because he didn't have time for that nonsense.  Isn't that the way it goes?  But all in all, it did end up to be a good weekend and we had a nice time together.  OK, that's my boring story....now it's your turn!
Love to All.
Diane
